The Process

Each design begins with a block of raw beeswax sourced from a local Cotswolds beekeeper. Once a design has emerged from a series of sketches, the carving process will begin where delicate tools are used to gradually sculpt the wax from its original beeswax form. This is an ancient method of jewellery making, with records suggesting it was first used in the fourth millennium BC.

Once perfected, the wax carving will be cast in recycled gold or silver using the lost wax casting technique, creating a one of a kind, organic shape derived from nature.

The process of sourcing a gemstone is an integral stage in creating a new piece and a great deal of time is spent to ensure the colour and texture compliments the design whilst telling a story of its own. When sourcing a stone I look for rich colours inspired by nature, particularly coral reds, jungle greens and deep sea blues.

This meticulous process results in a timeless work of art which combines a certain classic British elegance with the chaotic elements of nature. We hope you cherish your Poppy O design as a heirloom piece for many years to come.

All designs are created by hand in my studio in the Cotswolds. Due to the natural processes used, no two Poppy O designs are the same.
